IRRITATING NETWORK CRAP DEPT. – I missed grousing last week about ABC's irritating new practice of running shows like Lost four minutes past the hour mark. Last week, we nearly turned over to West Wing before the stinger finish; this week, we fortunately remembered at the last minute and got to see the sudden and mysterious return of Claire. (Had to dash upstairs to start the VCR during the final commercial break beforehand to tape the premiere ep of Point Pleasant, though.) This kind of calculatedly non-cooperative programming (Do we blame Turner Broadcasting for it? I seem to remember that WTBS in its early years started every program at five minutes after.) is, of course, designed to seamlessly lead us from one ABC show to another seamlessly. But I find myself so annoyed by the practice that I know I'll be recording all future episodes of Lost just so I can skip through the ads, you bastards, and not have to worry about the network further mucking around with the timing. . .
