"GOT TA HAVE A HUNDRED!" – Damn, another sixties soul great gone: "Wicked" Wilson Pickett dead at the relatively young age of 64 from a heart attack. Hard to pick a favorite song from the powerhouse who gave us "In the Midnight Hour," "Mustang Sally," "Land of A Thousand Dances" and "634-5789 (Soulsville)," but for me – tonight, at least – it's a close tie 'tween "Ninety-Nine And A Half (Won't Do)" and "Three-Time Loser." Or mebbe "Funky Broadway." Or "I'm A Midnight Mover" Or . . .
(Recommended Pickett for those without any in the house: The Rhino best-of pictured is a good place to start. But if you can find it, the two label's harder-to-find two-disc set, A Man And A Half, is even better.)
