FIFTY PER CENT LESS WORDS – Was disappointed to read on Spatula Forum today that the band Grandaddy has called it quits after releasing their newest album, Just Like the Fambly Cat. I've enjoyed the band's brand of lo-fi psychedelia since I first got hooked on their best and most commercial release Sumday back in ’03. Their swan song disc is a bit more scattered sounding – at times I'm strangely reminded of Debbie Harry's equally all-over-the-place solo disc Def, Dumb & Blonde – but there are still plenty of sweet-sounding melodic pop-rock cuts on it ("Jeez Louise," "Summer . . . It's Gone," "Guide Down Denied.") I'll miss these guys . . .
