NEW SHOW ATTRITION – Well, Smith, a series that I haven't even watched yet, is reportedly the first casualty of the new season. Here at Gadabout Central, we've begun the process of weeding out those new shows that we could live without. First to go: Fox's Vanished, facing stiff competition in the dumb-but-still-engrossing category from NBC's Heroes. Me, I decided to stick with the latter a bit longer when I saw what porn mom's doppelganger was capable of doing to the thugs who'd come after her. Watching Clea Duvall in a developing guest-starring role as a skeptical F.B.I. agent didn't hurt either, though I wouldn't be surprised if shadowy bad guy Sylar iced her before Thanksgiving. (She's just born to play hard-luck characters.) Nice to see director Alan (Rock And Roll High School, Get Crazy) Arkush taking directorial credit for the second episode. He's a fairly steady teevee director, it seems, though looking at the IMDB, it was rather depressing to realize that the last theatrical movie the man had a hand in was Caddyshack II (ouch!!)
Still watchin' Studio 60, of course, though from the ratings, we may be the only household in Central Illinois that is. Kept wanting Fred Stoller's stand-up comic (seen on a laptop screen when it appears as if one of the writing staff has stolen one of his bits) to show up in the studio because I think Fred's funny, but t'was not to be. Christine Lahti's lookin' pretty good, though . . .
