"YOU BAWL LIKE THE BABY IN ERASERHEAD!" – I've got no real desire to see 300 – and thus have no stake in the continuing discussions as to whether some critics've overly gotten their panties in a twist over the movie – but I am planning on heading to my local cinema when Rodriquez/Tarantino's Grindhouse opens. So I couldn't help noting former Dead Kennedy's lead Jello Biafra's public umbrage over the fact that Rodriquez's half of the feature reportedly utilizes a cover of the DKs' "Too Drunk to Fuck" in the background during a rape scene. "This goes against everything the Dead Kennedys stands for in spades," Biafra writes in a public screed that basically rails against his former band members for selling the rights to his song. Hey, I like the DKs' Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables and the original "Too Drunk" single, too, for that matter: decent, tho not exceptional, Cali hardcore with some funny proto-anarchist lyrics. (Check out JB's slams against "Zen Fascists" in "California Uber Alles.") But his present pose of righteous indignation strikes me as a little off somehow. Perhaps it's the phrase "everything the Dead Kennedys stands for. . ."
