NOSTALGIC FOR THEM PAGAN DAYS: Was initially intrigued to see that Gadabout fave Joe Dante had directed last night's C.S.I.: New York Halloween episode. But aside from the appearance of Dante regular Robert Piccardo and an amusing Fog-y opening cameo by good ol' Bruce Dern, the end results didn't prove all thst zingy. Dante and Amityville's faux ghost house should've proved irresistible, but this most staid entry in the C.S.I. franchise seemed to've stymied the director's anarchic impulses. We'll always have Eerie, Indiana, Joe!
In terms of major net treatments of my favorite holiday, the hands down winner was CW for its "Most Wonderful Time of the Year" low-budget Reaper promo - even if the show itself undercut its own most wonderful ad by having Ray Wise's devil complain about the devolution of All Hallow's Eve. Samhaim, now that was a holiday, he tells our patsy hero Sam at one point during this week's ep. Kudos to the actor for actually getting the pronunciation right.
