JOE'S FISCAL TROUBLES: Though NBC continues to treat its scheduling like they were Fox juggling a sci-fi series, I continue to seek out the new mid-year episodes of Medium. This season, in particular, has been nicely edgy - riding the recessionary wave as Jake Weber's soft-spoken hubby Joe Dubois has remained without work ever since wife Alison's cover was blown at the end of last season. Ain't a lotta series television capturing the desperation of the New Foreclosure Years - we'll take our economic uncertainties cloaked in fantasy metaphor, thanx - but Medium is openly and effectively doing it. Pretty surprising for a series purportedly inspired by the adventures of a "real-life" psychic . . .
