"I'M TAKING MY HEAD, SCREWING IT ON RIGHT AND NO GUY'S GONNA TELL ME IT AIN'T!" Recently found a sweet deal at my local Dollar General: two of Shout! Factor's SCTV boxed sets (volumes 2 & 3) going for ten dollars apiece. With five discs in a box featuring nine 90-minute shows in each season, that's quite a bargain for oen of the funniest sketch shows to have ever graced the American airwaves. I've been slowly going through the set and have currently just watched the first three offerings on volume two: "CCCP 1, " the episode centering around Libby Wolfson's feminist dinner theatre production and the parody of Zontar, the Thing from Venus co-starring Conrad Bain. All of 'em are filled with choice moments (Eugene Levy's close-to-catatonic Perry Como, Dave Thomas' "The Cruising Gourmet," John Candy's "Fishin' Musician" with the Plasmatics, Rick Moranis' George Carlin & Ron Rickles attempting Annie Hall type romantic comedies, Catharine O'Hara's Meryl Streep getting "blowed up real good" and more). A real bargain at the price: if you haven't already paid full dollar for these babies, you might want to check out your local Dollar Gen. It's not just for off-brand cleaning supplies anymore . . .
