THE NOM: Coming to it after a by-and-large crappy week, I've gotta admit to feeling uplifted watching Barack Obama delivering his nomination acceptance speech last night. More than anything, I can't help responding to the man's simple message that we can be better than this. It's a strong, clear and assertive statement that carries both a pledge and a criticism - and I think that the Democratic candidate nailed both aspects of his message. Haven't watched much of the convention as much as my loving wife has, but I didn't want to miss this significant political moment. And I'm definitely glad I did - and not just for the pop culture-centric Eight Is Enough joke . . .
