"A LENGTHY BUT ENGAGING STORY" Our first full-length review of Measure by Measure was posted on the Blogcritics site yesterday. A lot of writers huff that they don't bother to read their reviews, but we're still so new to this that I couldn't help poring over Blogcritic Robin Kavanagh's take on our baby. Miz K. is by and large positive about the work, though she does note that the overflow of characters can be confusing. Fair enough, though I remain puzzled by her reference to the "antiquated symbols" (like a dial-up modem) which show up in the book. The story's set, after in the mid- to late-nineties.

Was intrigued, however, by the way the writer's review of the book also turned into a reminiscence of her own struggles with size, self-esteem and romance. Clearly, MbM tapped into something personal for her. Not a bad review at all . . .

PEARLSONG CONVERSATIONS Tomorrow at noon Eastern time, yours truly and his wifely collaborator will be participating in a teleconference call with our publisher, Peggy Elam, of Pearlsong Press. This Pearlsong Conversation will be about the newly published Measure by Measure, natch, and will subsequently be archived on the site. If you wish to get involved in some give-&-take, check out the Pearlsong page for details on how you can be a part of the teleconference. And if you want to listen to or download the conversation later, it will be archived and available on the site, though at this writing I don't know when it will available. So watch this space, okay?

UPDATE (6/11): A fifty-minute MP3 of our chat with Pearlsong publisher Peggy Elam is now available for download or just plain listening.

"THE NEW PHONE BOOK IS HERE! THE NEW PHONE BOOK IS HERE!" This afternoon, we received a box stamped "Media Mail" from our publisher, Pearlsong Press. Inside were ten copies of the Rebecca Fox & William Sherman romantic novel, Measure By Measure. First thought I had after scissoring open the box (careful, don't wanna cut into the book cover!), was "Funny, I thought the cover was gonna be a darker blue!" Second was, "Holy shit! I'm actually holding our novel in my hand!"

I remember Neal Gaiman once writing about receiving author's copies of a new book: first page he opened to, he'd immediately light on a typo. I tried the same thing, but my bedazzled eyes were incapable of being so acute. The whole package looks pretty damn good to me. Excuse me while I continue to bask in the good feelings. . .

(Oh yeah, and the Amazon link is over on the right column!)

BOOK STUFF: Been spending a good part of the weekend working on some advanced promo material on Measure By Measure, the romantic size acceptance epic written by wife Becky Fox and yours truly. Planned publication date is mid-June, though this, of course, could change since our small-press publisher Pearlsong Press has been experiencing computer problems. For me, the first time I actually started feeling like this publication bizness was real occurred when publisher Peggy Elam emailed us some possible covers -- and the sample covers contained a UPC code on the back. Anyhoo, if you're interested, the first draft promo flyer can be found here.
